Well, I'm a newbie, and I have only 2 things I'm doing from home to make money. The first one has brought me about $340 in about a month, and the second one I just started a week ago, but getting traffic to my site is proving to be difficult. Actually, through traffic exchanges, I am seeing about 1500 hits to my site in just the last 2 days, but the problem is getting people to click through and make the commitment to join.

I started this new project about 5 days ago and have only been promoting for 2 days. I know patience is something I need to hold on to, but do you have suggestions for a better way to do this? I can be patient, however, I'd like to see some results fairly soon, since I've recently been laid off from my job. The current economic status has really hurt this town. We've lost a ton of jobs and opportunities here.

Hello Newbie,
I have to agree with Gary on the reasons that newbies fail. I did all the wrong things myself until I read a couple of ebooks that really changed my thinking and my direction on the web. I think you are doing pretty good if you have made over $300 already but there is a lot more to be made if you do the right things. There are some other list builders that are very good for getting people to sign up under you and I would be happy to share those with you. Patience is the key and staying with ONE endeavor at a time will help you see greater results. Best of luck in your ongoing success!

In my opinion newbies fail due to the lack of education plus information overload. Please let me explain what I mean by this statement. I have been an engineer for 28 - no it is already 29 years now. First I had to get my degree which took me 4 years and then I had to work as an engineer in training for another 3 years. I worked for 15 years before I achieved Professional status. Let us compare this with a total newcomer to Internet Marketing. They get told about people making millions with a Home Business Online and they believe that they can achieve the same within three weeks. They start looking around and get sucked into one scheme after the other. The one program will tell them to do this and the next just the opposite. Not strange that they get confused and run out of money before they achieve any success with their business.

When I started my Internet Marketing career I first did some research to find out who are the people that have real success with their online business. Then I subscribed to their newsletters and I visited the forums that they suggested. I decided which topic would interest me most and I did some research to find out what is available and how people make money with it. With the help of the search engines you can virtually find any information you want on the Internet. (Side Note: When you are interested in a new program first find out who the owner/founder is and then Google his name and the name of his company. This way you will get all the background information and you will be in a much better position to decide if it is worth spending any money there.)

Give yourself some time to get "educated" and then decide what you want to do. Jumping from one new launch to the next will be a certain recipe for failure. Focus all your resources on the single task to build your list. Build a relationship with your list members and find out exactly what they want. Find a solution for their problems and create or find a product or service to help them grow their business, reach their goals or find what they are searching for. This way you will achieve your goal of making money online.

There are certain skills that you have to learn first and you will have to realize that you have to invest some money in necessary tools for the job. You have to be able to create a good landing page or capture page and you need to invest in a good Auto-Responder Service. You need to know how to generate free targeted traffic for your landing page and you have to be able to load your Auto-Responder with an email series that your new members will open, read and act on. You may send them affiliate links but ultimately you have to create your own products. You can do it yourself or pay other people to do it for you.

I agree with you Gary.

It took me years to figure out why I was failing...and when I look at your posting, I did fall under all the categories.
I think education is the key. If most newbies would take their time and learn the process and do it right the first
time, their ability to learn and succeed will come naturally.

I feel the responses here have been thought provoking. However, having said that, I would
like to take exception the the economy response. Certainly, it is down. Perhaps, the only
time it has been worse, was the Depression. In any event, I do not and will not except that
as a reason to be discouraged. I will not "buy-into" that mind-set for my contracting business nor my
IM business.

Stay positive, keep working (smart) and you will see progress and with time, profit.

Take Care

I agree whole heartily with Kathy. We have to take responsibility as online marketers for our new prospects and find out how much experience they have. In our business we actually have three levels of entry where we channel the total newbies first into a training site. Here they learn about online marketing first. This is a free website where they can first get some experience before they start to invest in their own business.

In some cases however I had just the opposite reaction when I try to tell people not to invest in some programs until they have the experience to make full use of all the facilities. It looks as if newbies are just like children - when you tell them not to do something, that is exactly what they do. Maybe one can use this as a new marketing ploy  just joking. Seriously it is sometimes difficult to protect people against themselves. One must always try to help people to focus on a single program and make a success of it before moving on to the next opportunity.

I feel that the most important aspect of online marketing is to teach people how they can build their own list. Once you have a list, even a small one of 100-200, you should keep on building the relationship with your list members. I have found that most people do not even contact their new subscribers and welcome them to their list. They think that it is the responsibility of the company. Nothing builds a good relationship than welcoming your new subscriber personally. The first thing you should ask your new subscriber is if they had any problems with the sign-up process. Next ask them what previous experience they have and what their goals are with Internet Marketing. If you can get them to respond, you will have won half the battle.

My motto is courtesy, honesty and integrity always and it will automatically shine through to your members. Never let it happen that an email from any of your members sits unanswered in your mailbox. It is the best opportunity you have to help your member on the correct path. One day during July 2008 I got a very angry email from a prospect accusing me and the whole Internet of telling lies. That we say things are free to join but then when you want to use anything you have to pay. In stead of deleting the letter I took some time and wrote back to explain exactly how you have to invest in your business if you want to make some money. To make a long story short. Today that same person is my partner in several businesses we built together with great success. Make contact - keep contact and build your business.

Carpe Diem - Seize the day!

All very valid points. It all comes down to building value in yourself by first educating yourself on all the aspects of successful online marketing. Once you do that, you literally become the valuable resource that you marketplace is desperately searching for.

Internet Marketing and especially the Network Marketing and Direct Sales industry get such a bad rep because of the 97% of people who fail and then go tell the rest of the U.S. population that it is all a scam. And it will always remain that way because the successful people dont go around bragging to everyone about there succes but, those who fail have no problem at all making it their duty to "WARN" other people to stay away from this industry.

If only the world new that it is ALL about gaining and giving value, maybe the failure rate would be at 70%. But this is only wishful thinking.

Have patience, stay passionate, Gain value, and Give value and then success will be a natural part of the equation.

To your success and nothing less,
